PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS / Revised Version with better Explanations / American Terminology

—————————————

—————————————

All single crochets are worked into the back loop on top of the crochet beneath, all double crochets are worked into the back loop on top of the crochet 2 rows below, incorporating in it the chain of the row below.

——

Each row is worked on the front, from right to left. The yarn has to be cut in each row.

——

Use the kind of end stitches you have decided and tried out in your swatch, see separate Blogs about the subject

——

Chosen for this instruction: 6 stitch repeat: multiple of 6, plus 3 /

(if you start with 5 stitch repeat: multiple of 5, plus 3, etc)

——

The pattern wanders to the left 1 stitch in each row, therefore you have to integrate the last stitch of a new srp each row on the right side; you loose the last stitch of one srp on the left side.

——

chain: make a tight slipknot (does not count as stitch and is not worked in) / chain your established number of stitches = multiple of srp count plus 3 = you have the same number of chain stitches you did plus one loop

——

1st row: 1 single crochet into the upper loop of the second finished chain to the left / one single crochet into each upper loop of the chain stitches left / do your chosen left edge stitch: 1sc; or 1sc + 1chain; - cut yarn and pull through; or: leave loop for end stitch of next row

-—

2nd row (new yarn, from right to left): right edge stitch as chosen into the first single crochet below / 1 double crochet into the bottom loop of the chain in which the second single crochet of the first row is worked, incorporating the sc of the row below / 1 chain / 1 single crochet into the back loop on top of the fourth single crochet of the first row, jumping 1 single crochet in the first row / 3 more single crochets into the back loops of the next single crochets beneath / * 1 double crochet into the bottom loop of the chain under the next sc, incorporating the sc below / 1 chain / 4 sc into the back loops of the stitches beneath, jumping the one under the chain * / repeat from * to * until you have one sc left - this should coincide with the end of the last stitch repeat / 1 dc into the bottom loop of the last sc beneath incorporating the stitch below - this dc is our left edge stitch for this row - cut the yarn and pull it through or leave the loop and cut it after the next row, according to your chosen method of left edge stitch

—-

3rd row (new yarn): right edge stitch of your choice / 1 sc into the back loop on top of the dc beneath / * 1 dc into the back loop on top of the sc two rows below - the one under the chain - incorporating the chain / 1 chain / 1 sc into the back loop on top of the second next sc of row 2, jumping 1 / 3 sc * / repeat from * to * / the last srp will only have 3sc / left edge stitch

4th row: right edge stitch / 2sc / repeat from* to * of row 3 / the last srp will only have 2sc / left edge stitch

5th row : right edge stitch / 3 sc / repeat from* to * of row 3 / the last srp will only have 1sc / left edge stitch

6th row: right edge stitch / 4 sc / repeat from* to * of row 3 / the last srp will only have the dc and chain / left edge stitch

—-

7th row: right edge stitch / 1 chain / 1 sc jumping 1 / 3 sc / repeat from* to * of row 3 / in this row only the dc of the last srp is left / left edge stitch

8th row: right edge stitch / repeat from * to * of row 3 - you will end this row with a complete srp / left edge stitch

go on repeating row 3 to 8

rows 3 to 8 is the row repeat pattern (rrp) of 6 rows - this means every 6 rows you should have only complete stitch repeat patterns.

The number of stitches in each row is exactly the same

———

———

The pattern wanders to the left: 1 stitch in each row, therefore you have to integrate the last stitch of a new srp each row on the right side; you loose the last stitch of one srp on the left side.

———

in the sleeves there is a left and right increase, you have to place additional stitches. You must consider these as parts of a new or incomplete ongoing repeat and work them accordingly. This and what to do for the rounding will be described in a separate Blog about the sleeves.

The decreases of the main body for sleeves and neckline will be described during work-in-progress Blogs

———

For your orientation: my stitch count for the main body of the cardigan, worked in one piece back and front in 6/6/6…. is 297, with crochet needle no. 3,5 / Italian size 46/48, calf length.

So be prepared to do a very long chain……

On the other hand, projects aimed to use up a certain amount of yarn where you don’t know which ones will finish when, you have to have less pieces possible for better distribution. Doing the body in 3 pieces would mean that at times you have to work 5 pieces at the same time - and to sew them together taking care to match them.

disclaimer: I really really hope not to have made a mistake in the description - if you have any question, write a comment and tag me, I will answer as soon as I see it.

Abbreviations and stitches used - - the general terminology used in internet now seems to be the American version, whereby single crochet means the basic stitch, double crochet=treble

——————

ch = chain

sc = single crochet

dc = double crochet

sr = stitch repeat = the number of stitches in your pattern unit

srp = stitch repeat pattern - used to indicate one unit of the pattern width-wise

rrp = row repeat pattern - used to indicate one unit of the pattern height-wise

———————

The single crochets are generally worked into the back loop on top of the crochet underneath, apart from the edge stitches. The double crochets are worked into the back loop on top of the crochet 2 rows below, incorporating in it the chain of the row beneath

——

at the beginning of every starting chain you will make a slipknot

——

in the finishing process you might use slipstitch
